Removing glass stuck to picture?
A customer has given me two miniatures to re-frame. They are new watercolours, framed by the artist with the glass directly against the art, no mount. On one of them, the glass has stuck to the paper. I wouldn't be surprised if the paint wasn't quite dry when it was glazed and framed :( On this occa...

Re: UV acrylic
Many thanks for all these replies. A lot to get my head around methinks, but I'll start with reading the links and take it from there. Thanks again, the replies are really helpful

Re: UV acrylic
Steve, thanks for that link. I searched for "Acrylic" and the result I got bypassed that "Plastic Glass" page and took me straight to the "Acrylic Plastic Glass" page which doesn't mention the 99%.
Jonathan, thanks for the David Palmer heads-up

UV acrylic
One of my customers is thinking about having UV acrylic fitted to a framed poster. I can see that TruVue Optium blocks up to 99% of UV rays (at an eye-watering cost) but I can't find specifications about other brands. Lion has discontinued Artglass and Wessex is selling unbranded UV acrylic which do...

Re: Trimming down a print
@ Tudor Rose, thanks for that insight. Interesting point about the difference between artist's own work and otherwise. In these current jobs, it's not the artist's own work. If I give enough space around the painting, I wouldn't need to trim but I still haven't quite decided how much space looks bes...

Re: Trimming down a print
I've got some original botanical paintings like the one in the OP to frame, although unlike the OP's, they're not of huge value. This might be a silly question, but as this thread is all about prints, are originals treated in the same way as a print? The customer has left it to me to decide on the s...

Re: Postal Packaging.
Can I ask what happens if the glass breaks? Do you have to get the picture back to replace the glass and then re-send it? And is it covered by insurance?

Re: Framed wax sculpture
Diorama, eh - the plot thickens! I'll have to ask to have another look at it to see if it's been made out of separate pieces or out of just one piece. I'd assumed it was just one piece but there are some variations of colour so perhaps it's separate pieces. Thanks for the further info

Re: Framed wax sculpture
Thanks for that, Steve. The framed job looks like the attached, although obviously not the same subject matter. I've been able to follow a few links from that image and find out more about the technique, thanks.

Framed wax sculpture
A customer has shown me an interesting item which has passed down through the family, which was a framed 3-D sculpture in wax. It was the inside of a church, showing the organ and choir stalls, with variation in shades of brown and cream to show the woodwork and organ pipes. It wasn't very big, prob...

Re: Which backing board?
I've seen a very long discussion thread about the pro's and con's of creating a package. I'll have to try it one day to see if it makes a difference :) Ah, the feeling of satisfaction when you've finished packaging up the artwork and you don't have to treat it with kid gloves any more, it's almost ...

Re: Brown gummed paper tape
I wonder how many framers still use gummed paper tape in this day and age, I suspect that most are using self adhesive tapes these days, or am I wrong? I use gummed tape. I'd like to get a better quality as the last batch I got was very inferior (thin), but very often the exact specification isn't ...

Re: Specification of mountboard changed?
Is this the first time you have ordered this board, again the specs could have changed since the samples were sent out Yes it is Steve, and it's certainly possible that the spec has changed since I got my sample 3 years ago. It's still a shame though, if that's the case, that they didn't change the...

Re: Specification of mountboard changed?
It seems I’m the only forum member who uses that particular mountboard, which is a shame as I’d hoped in posting that more information could be gathered in order to help the manufacturer work out what had happened.
Thanks for the replies anyway

Re: Specification of mountboard changed?
Of course I'll contact my supplier.
But if anyone has got this board, please share whether you've got smooth or textured.
Apart from myself wanting to know, it might alert other people to a potential problem if they're about to order it.
