Re: Photography and Mounting
I have 4 large silver bromide prints waiting to be framed. They have come with 3.5mm mounts form Austria. The prints are on quite heavy paper and held in place with quite large photo corners made of the same paper, they are similar in idea to the smaller melinex/mylar ones you can get. Perhaps an op...

10,000 hours?
I have just read Malcom Gladwell's book 'Outliers'. It’s an interesting read in which he describes a theory that suggests that you need to have been practicing a specific task for around 10,000 hours before you become truly proficient at it. Among others he cites examples such as the Beatles playing...

Re: Argentinean Air Force Items
Thanks Robo, I'll get some photos when Im back in the workshop on Monday. You are correct about the brooch. I think I follow the rest of your post. Can you tell me where I can get Abrasion Resistant acrylic and is it anythink like acrylic glazing or is it more flexible? Why abrasion resistant? I'm a...

Re: Website
I have my email and telephone number right on the banner at the top of every page so people can't help but see it. In addition to the website though I also have a yellow pages entry, I run adds in the local add mag and a local paper. How effective is all that? Its hard to say but I get customers fro...

Argentinean Air Force Items
I have three items of WWII Argentinean Air Force memoribillia to frame and I'm not quite sure how to approah it. The items are a sweet heart enamelled brooch, a single prop rank badge (Leading Aircraftsman I think) and a curved sholder flash form a great coat. The cloth items are quite fragile so I'...

Re: Small picture - wide mount & frame
I had a lady from the village where I work in the other day with a needle point for framing. She said she always has her work framed without a mount (no idea where she had them done in the past). I convinced her to have a mount although she wasnt sure it would 'look right'. I went for a wide ...

Re: Hotpress price list
Thanks for your replys. I have the price list now (thanks Ian). If anyone else wants it I'll post it here, however I'm going to check with Steve first to make sure it is still current.
Thanks for the link John, not the list I was after I'm afraid, but thanks anyway.

Hotpress price list
I used to have a copy of the Hotpress list for costs of drymounting and laminating. It gave the cost of using various films and adhesives. I can't track down the thread or find it on the Hotpress website. Can anyone post the link or email me a copy? I seem to remember the file was dated 2009 but dec...

There is always a rick of breakage with glass but many do send it. Im sticking to acrylic. There are other threads on the forum on the subject, have a search.

Re: Posting mounts
Thanks,
Yes I have my CMC but the delivery coincided with an overseas trip so I havent had much 'hands on' time yet. The Gunnar software came with a corner template so I'll have a look at that tonight, even though I'm a long way from the CMC at the moment!

Re: Mounting Photographs for sale
Steve, For some reason I hadn't thought of cutting the foamcore oversise and cutting it down to rebate size once the mount had been attached. :Slap: . The whole process has just got a bit qicker, thanks, even quicker if I leave some mounting film around the edges of the print to stick the mount to. ...

Re: B & Q paints
I'm using a lot of Everest which is good paint, but quite expensive, and am looking for an alternative. Not sure if 'chalky' finish would work though, no harm trying at those prices though. I'm finding that painting unfinised mouldings, even for basic black frames to be quite attractive to a lot of ...

Ive got some mounts and acrylic glazing to post (2 of each 16x24). Is there a proven way of protecting small amounts such as this? I think the packaging is likely to be more expensive that the mounts and acrylic!

Mounting Photographs for sale
I have two photographs to frame for an exhibition. They are for sale. I have agreed with the customer as they are glossy the best way to ensure they are flat and to ensure no ripples are visible is to stick them down on 5mm foamcore (my JM26 is now earning it's keep  ). My question is what is ...

Shocked at the 'quality'
My wife and I took a day out to take our Daughter to 'The Making of Harry Potter' at the Warner Bros studios at Leavesdon. As usual there is a gift shop peddaling the usual Harry Potter stuff. While browsing I noticed the framed 'limited edition' pritnts and photos for sale so of course I couldn't r...

I wouldn't be tempted do it myself. If possible i'd ask the owner to do it and advise them not to use steam!

Filler for Ash
I'm making some frames for a gallery exhibition in September and am using Lions L101 ash moulding. I'm getting good cuts and joins but want to fill some barly perceptable gaps in the back at the rear. That are very small and the customer would probably not notice but I just want to make shure with t...

I'm investigating a suitable vehicle for transporting finished frames, which would be suitable for fitting out internally etc. The Volvo V70 I have is fine for small frames but cannot really handle the bigger stuff and there is always the chance of damage. I guess I’m looking for a small panel van o...
