Thanks for the feedback !. It was never a concious decision not to use glue as I was always impressed with the strength obtained from just wedges and just thought it was unnecessary. In the interests of "getting the job right" I will change my approach and start using glue. I am doing my b...

Glue ?

I have only encountered a few occasions when I have had to glue the moulding as well as underpin. This was necessary for a very thin moulding and and also on a deep rebate when framing a football shirt. I found the wedges would not close the front of the moulding. Can I ask if other people uses glue...

Re Excalibur 5000 I have adjusted the wheel pressure and that works well for cuts of 400mm ish. It is probably the breaking technique that is to blame and I just cannot afford to keep experimenting. No matter I am happy with the bench technique. Incidently I use glass gloves fron Lion when handling ...

My Excalibur 5000 makes a poor job of cutting large (1220 x 915) sheets of glass and I wasted a lot before resorting to cutting on the bench. Smaller pieces are ok. have checked the 5000 but cannot see any reason for the problem but it did make me paranoid when I started up. I have been described as...

Just received 1/2 inch wide teflon tape from www.mousegear.co.uk. This is self adhesive and I have lined the front face and top of my left rebate support. Works a treat.

I have this problem with a brand new set of auto height supports. They are supplied with a new t slot track/bottom blade profile which is why they are so damn expensive. Anyway the right hand support moves freely but the left shows more resistance at the centre point of the slide so I have to move t...

With regard to blind customers.... I had a customer in today, she stood in the workshop area surrounded by all the paraphernalia associated with framing and asked "do I do picture framing...?". I nearly said "no luv, this is a grocers" but I cannot afford to lose a customer. Inci...

I will measure the roll tomorrow. However I purchased this from Lion at least 6 years ago (long story) and I see it is no longer listed in their catalogue. I guess bubble wrap is more popular but would be interested to hear if the corrugated roll is available from another supplier.

Another frame packaging method

Not sure if anyone is using corrugated roll for packing frames but this method solves a lot of problems in a stroke. Cut piece 2.5 x height of frame. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w135/The_Crofter/packing-2.jpg Staple side flaps. http://i175.photobucket.com/albums/w135/The_Crofter/packing-3.jpg...

Photographic courses... not thought of that angle !. I have never considered myself good enough to be able to instruct other people and will confess that technology has been a tremendous help over the years. Nowdays the results from even a "lowly" digital camera can be stunning and as ther...

I currently get my glass from a supplier in Inverness but there are only a few places to get it from. I am contemplating a run to Perth or Glasgow for my next batch and even paying my fuel cost would make it a lot cheaper. Any info on suppliers would be appreciated. Agree word of mouth is good in th...

Hi, I just thought I would say hello and wish everyone a Happy New Year. I have recently started a Framing & Photographic business in the NW Highlands of Scotland and spent around 2 months building the workshop in the Container Gallery, Kinlochbervie. A friend runs the gallery but spends a lot o...
