Hand carved Sansovino

I didn't get chance to visit the exhibition on these frames at the National Gallery last year but have had a go at creating one as I'm hooked on carving at the moment
doing this between orders so took a while.

have yet to gesso and gild it

Re: old master to frame

we could look to make an 18th century reproduction most frames of the 1700's were carved as compo didn't come into use until the end of the 18th century. depending on the calibre of the painting we can make or source something suitable this is one we made for a client with an 18th Cent portrait show...

Re: carved samples

I've been looking at some of the framers in the U.S. through links on the frame blog. there are some good framers out there who, with a little ingenuity, are creating some very interesting frames. if anyone gets chance, take a look. it can fire you up to be a bit creative I'm in the midst of carving...

Re: Distressing!

axminster power tools I think still do a mini shot blasting kit and would guess that's what may have been used

you can overdo shot blasting and the finish depends on type of sand/grit used

otherwise, check locally and there may be someone doing this- a steel manufacturers may help

Re: Cassesse CS2 Pneumatic Underpinner

Hi Andy
I bought the CS2 in January from Phil at Ashworth and Thompson and it's been a great little machine

we do some volume work on it and it holds up very well.
wedges sometime stick but it's very easy to loosen and remove

Very sad news when any firm ceases

we used to supply Renaissance with mouldings a few years back and always thought them a very good company to work with

best of luck in what ever new venture you go into
