Steven. (and once you get into the habit of doing work like this, it wont leave you. I sat the GCF some 5 years ago and your advice is so true. It makes you set a standard and one that you should NEVER climb down from, only improve on. I (and I will admit it) was one of those who didnt read the inst...

We have had the same problem with ready mades and ordering the strut backs for them.. Whilst I agree with John that it is mostly customer driven. Distributors still work imperial.. SIMONS for one.. Their latest pricing booklet is still in £'s per 100 foot. However, the magic figure of 3.281 comes in...

Limited Edition Print or Open Edition
Having just received a brochure from SWAFine Art, I was quite taken by the Concorde print. It states Limited Edition of 500. Retail price £93.00 +VAT. Signed by the Last Flying Pilot of Concorde. So a Good price and will sell out very quickly. However, (and didnt you know that was going to be there)...

Mark. Yes likewise very dissappointed. I travelled 5 hours from Cornwall to get there. For the first time in many years of visiting, I found the car parks empty. Once inside the hall, I really did wonder if the 'show' had opened !!! A distinct lack of footfall. Yes I too, managed two complete circui...

We too have problems with our local council. Yes an increase in car parking fees combined with a maximum stay of 3 hours !!! Has really turned away the holiday people from our town.. This is a fairly large town in West Cornwall with a lot of history. According to the tourist information people, the ...

FATG
I do not know where Cornish Framer is from. I am in West Cornwall. I have come across the same situation. Some Extremely well known publishing artists have returned the same comment. Who are the FATG. I have also been out and about at the local colleges, teaching/talking about framing and mounting. ...

Labels
Hi Guys Have also looked at various label printing machines and the cost of the labels that fit them.. We use DAYMARK LABELS at www.labelsandtags.com If you go to the site click on the other labels tab. Have used them for about two years now and have had no problem at all with the label sticking to ...

No. After a lot of discussion about retrospective rebate or compensation and due to the annual transaction amount that I take, I would only have been on the top tier.. about 1.51%.. plus the compensation would not have been that much anyway, in the region of .15%. But am happy that I managed to rene...

It pays to check Merchant Services
ABT arrived today and the advert on the inside of the back cover got me investigating. I am a member of the FATG and use the Bank of Scotland Merchant Services PDQ machine. Having not long received a statement from BoS. I noticed that the transaction rate I am paying was different from that advertis...

This could be an interesting thread. Well done. We have a retail outlet on a High St in SW Cornwall. Cold and extremely windy in Winter, in fact a constant 30mph as the minimum blows across The Lizard peninsular. Summer and full of frustrated tourists from the big cities, who just cannot understand ...

Yet again we go round in circles. Both Steven and Markw make good and valid points. As I have stated in previous posts. I am a member of FATG and a GCF. I am also a member of the Guild of MasterCraftsmen. The former costs me £175 per year and I have only received 1 (one) framing job because I am a m...

Deep Rebates
We had the 'Euro Moulding' rep in today. So following on from this thread, I gave him just a little 'ear ache' on the rebate size of some of his mouldings. Well, out came the examples. Lo and behold some with 12 mm rebates. Plus a lot of barefaced woods with really deep rebates - 25 mm plus. From th...

Likewise, we too have tried the Rabbetspace and as Steven says , it just doesnt look professional.
I much prefer framespace by ARQADIA - sorry at home so do not have the number - it comes in 1/4 inch, 1/2 inch and 1 inch steps.
so handy for the well packed conservation work and also for box frames.

Horses for courses really.. Dermot is just a 'whizz'. I have tried both Colourmount tac board and Daler repositinable and permanent... I just could not get on with either of them.. We do a fair amount of Photo mounting for the Military airbase near by and with the Tac boards, I do seem to keep getti...

Hi Steven I dont believe that my comment above was a 'gripe' at the FATG, just an observation between two very good publications. Having said that. In June of last year, I did write to Annabel Rushton suggesting that just maybe they had lost their way on articles in the ABT. As I do have copies goin...

We have had the same problem as Markw, and have now gone for the 50W track system for 'washing' the picture wall.. But, we do also have 5 ft tubes down the centre of the shop with Daylight properties. In honesty though I am still not happy, was looking at the recessed wall washer type of lighting. T...
