Re: Customer enquiries
Hey Patrick, Estlite is perfectly adequate, in fact it does quite a lot and costs about £500 one-off payment. I moved over to Framiac after a couple of years though, which does a few more things and I find really easy to use. Imo I think the layout and look of a program is really important for some ...

Re: Oak or ash tray frames
R&H do a, stepped tray frame but I've found it difficult if the canvas isn't perfectly square. We've made them using a wide oak frame turned on its head with the rebate on the inside, then affix mdf from the back. The mdf is then painted.

Re: Framed oil canvas with glass
"Canvas doesn't breathe!" is a common exclamation on other forums. As I understand it, it is common practice in the US to back a canvas with a corrugated polyproplene board, but not common in the UK. Personally I like the idea but would take my lead from someone like Tudor Rose. I can say ...

Re: Best UK Moulding Supplier
HI James welcome to the forum. Jim has pretty much said it all but here's my 5p worth. Rose and Hollis - the best for barewoods, they specialise in it. Larson Juhl - imho higher end finishes than others and more expensive Lions- excellent for low mid and higher range finishes and excellent for sundr...

Re: Duplicating a three year old job.
Agreed. We're a work from home studio business, so it's rare to lose out on a job once we have them in the door. If people ring up for a price, we don't usually hear from them again. I used to hate giving prices over the phone, but its proved to be a useful method to sort wheat from chaff!

I found it's a two man job! There have been some Ebay listings in the past for servicing them.

Duplicating a three year old job.
With all of the talk of price increases over the last few years I thought it would be interesting to mention this. I have just had a return customer in from September 2019, wanting another photo framed to the same spec as the last. In three years the price has increased from £88 to £95 and includes ...

Re: Advice Appreicated
Ah you're right. I believe it was an insanely high rent increase that caused the shutdown. Plenty more contract framers around I'm sure.

Re: Advice Appreicated
For bulk frames, there are companies that supply "ready made" frames to the framing/retail industry that I would assume are a higher quality than Ikea/The Range. You could research contract picture framers too like artimaging.co.uk.

Re: Advice Appreicated
As far as I'm aware there are no entry level CMC's ("computerised Mount cutter"),unless you can find an old pneumatic machine. You could find a Gunnar F1 for £4K+ and an F1 hybrid for £5k+. With a few phone calls to your local framers, you could easily and quickly establish costs for your ...
Re: Morso
Morso is still the standard, unless you're talking about a double saw which are £££. £200 sounds like a bargain as long as it hasn't been dropped on its head. Does it have the right scales for you, metric or imperial? Are you prepared to give it a full check over, clean up, adjust? All parts are ava...

Re: Underpinner (and other machinery) Hacks
P.S. Looking at mine this morning, I only replaced the bevelled sliding measure as it was really worn. I then simply removed the bolt in the clamp and move the clamp as close as I want to the bevel.

Fitz, I swapped mine out with the updated one a while ago, which can be clamped close to the guage. Much better now. Underpinnerspares I think.
