Re: Pneumatic Framemaster Point Gun fails
Hi Chris, I'm sure that you will get some good solutions to your question here on this forum. Perhaps one of the Wessex, Lion or Framers Equipment technicians might jump in. However it is important to recognize that Fletcher produced two different versions of a pneumatic FrameMaster... one was simil...

Re: Branching Out - June PFM Article
On Church Hill is not Manchester. It's like saying a shop in the Hamptons is in Manhatten. ;) Indeed James, the author stated near Manchester, in Knutsford - remember he was writing to an American and World audience. In my haste, I missed that detail. ...A particularly good edition. The card...

Re: Tagging guns?
Peter, Great questions... tagging guns of course have been around for a long time and the first time I saw them used as an alternative to sewing was while teaching in Australia about 18 years ago. I will say that a long or medium tag can easily be taped on the back side to secure, and if sufficientl...

Fellow forum member, Keith Hewitt has written an article in the current issue of Picture Framing Magazine , on branching out into other products to compliment your framing business, and specifically visit with frame shop On Church Hill in Manchester... Interesting story which compliments my seminar ...

If you are a member of Federation of Small Business , have I believe a legal hot line for members I like the Steve's idea of contacting a professional on this question. Re: Custom Framing - Industry Status Quo (blog post)
John Mcafee, Chris is an established framer and businessman who is quite aware of this forum. He is active on both of the North American forums as well as PPFA where he has served as an chapter officer. I think you may have mis-judged his intentions which he politely responded with a little more int...

Re: cutting mounts at an angle
...I'm trying to cut a mount to display an embroidered handkerchief which is embroidered diagonally (so looking for a diamond shaped mount). I know keencut sell a kit for cutting at different angles, does anyone know of a way to do it without buying the kit? I feel like I should be able to make som...

Re: Framing a spider's web
A picture sounds like it might clear up the exact identity of this artwork you are describing, but this sounds suspiciously like "Schneerschnitten" or those Chinese paper cutouts. I can think of three methods that these have been treated.... 1) Spray adhesive against a background mountboar...

Re: Which UV glass?
We swapped over to ArtGlass versions a while ago and much prefer it. Easier to clean and offers the same protection. We don't use any of the Tru Vue glass now. Hi Jo, No question that the ArtGlass product is a very good specialty UV glass, but just to clarify...they do not exactly offer the same pr...

Hi David, Interesting book page... what is the title? I would NOT utilize the upper right method, but would elect the bottom right technique almost always. It should also be noted that the primary reason for using a pin or brad as we would call it in the U.S., is to hold the frame together in the ev...

Re: Introducing ourselves
Paul & Lorraine, Good luck with this new venture. It sounds like you are preparing yourself with professional equipment and that is good! Be sure to charge enough for your work! Despite being a labour of love, (you mention a new found job satisfaction), this actually works against many framers, ...

Re: double sided tape or adhesive
...Using archival double sided tape (which is what I have to hand) is not always proving strong enough so the foam board is coming away from the mount board (not helped the weight of the w/c paper).... Hi Lewis, "Archival Double Sided tape" is a bit of an oxymoron. Anything that is self-a...

There is a textile framing course at the end of the month at the FATG office in London. [ http://www.fineart.co.uk/training-and-courses.aspx ]. I don't know whether there are any places left. Dave, This would be worth your time. As a professional framer accepting the work and personal keepsakes of ...

Re: Wanted - wall mounted chevron display system
All those differing length samples with ends at different angles (45, 90 and 135 degrees) look a bit chaotic to me. I'd want them all with the same length along the edge and reverse mitred. James, As you didn't actually specifically identify to which photo you are making reference, I assumef that i...

Graham, Here's another picture of "Space Savers". I think they have a professional look, function well, and although these are commercially available from two sources in the United States, they could easily be made by any good woodworker... http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b144/grumblegru...

Re: Wanted - wall mounted chevron display system
Personally, I think large fabric displays look far better than any sort of rack system. I use the grey loop fabric Wessex sell glued to 6mm MDF panels. I have mine framed with a flat oak moulding and a picture light above each one - they look great!... I agree that fabric panel displays can look th...

Hey 242, It looks like you're on the right track with sourcing material. As ds128hcliverpool mentioned, picking up jerseys at the club's shops is a good source - often they will have older, retired items on sale, too. We have gone that route, as well. I just wanted to share with you that this is the...
