Re: Soft wood splitting on Morso F
I'm assuming that you're talking about properly seasoned wood and not green wood?

Re: Filling of Corner Join
Have a look at "Rub 'n Buff" small tubes of wax. They come in all shades and will cover the filler easily. It goes a long way!

"Will anyone care what's in your black bag?"
Why they changed to see through bags I imagine.
I heard they send a SWAT team around at 3am!

Re: Welsh businesses - new recycling laws
It's the same here down south, bubblewrap scraps have always gone in the general waste bag. In fact I don't understand what the deal is with this law coming in. My understanding was that if I didn't have waste contracts in place over the last few years, I was liable for exactly the same fine! My cou...

Re: Morso Chopper Issues
Assuming that you're gluing your joins, get a Stanley band clamp and clamp tight after joining and leave overnight. See if that improves it. Stacking can be unpredictable. I'm guessing a single 15 would do. I'd go even closer to the inside and two wedges should be sufficient. Some might agree the mi...

Re: Morso Chopper Issues
As Steve says, that outside wedge is far too close to the outside and is pushing the mitre open. Your outside wedge should be just past halfway no further and the inside wedge should be as close as you can to the inside.

One note about the various sized keys. I know only buy 18 40 and 60mm W1 keys and 40mm W0 keys. The keys can be cut down to fit after insertion, which saves having to but every single size available.

Fillet Master Instructions Anyone?
Well the filletmaster.com website does not seem to exist anymore... I have checked Youtube and am now an expert in filleting salmon, mackerel and halibut, but just wondering if anyone can post a copy of the diagram supplied with the Frame Master, just to double check what I'm doing. Anyone? Pretty p...

Re: Waiting for Hoffmann
I've owned a second hand MU2 for about five years. I also have an underpinner but use the underpinner less than the MU2. It really depends what sort of mouldings you use. The Hoffmann makes hardwoods like oak and ash really easy to join, likewise anything with a shape that makes underpinning tricky....

Re: Float frame moulding UK
Rose and Hollis specialise in barewoods, but actually for a barewood Obeche float frame you'll find Lion's do a better range atm. Also consider turning a moulding on its side or upside down and building your own with an mdf backing, if that works for the project.

Re: Do you mount to board or barrier?
@Zac If you imagine the front and back cover of a hardback book, the window mount is the front cover and undermount the back cover. Line them up and tape down the seam, then hinge you work as usual onto the undermount. If it's portrait orientation then the book hinge is taped on the side, if it's la...

Re: Chop saw thoughts
From my understanding an ancient double mitre saw will always beat new hobby equipment. At least that's what I have been advised. I have one in my shed waiting for me to give it a full service and make the space for it. The older machines like mine (c1980's) are much simpler and many less parts to r...

Re: Do you mount to board or barrier?
According to the FATG, the undermount should be a minimum of 1100 mic as Roboframer says, but preferably the same thickness as the window mount.

Re: Oak supplier advice
Imo oak is oak is oak. I suggest making a new sample from what is supplied and sell it without any comment about how it was. I just had the same with a new set of Crescent Rag board chevrons. All the tones are different to the original set I have been using. The customers have no idea.. An expert in...

Re: Machinery needed, starting from scratch
Depending on how much budget, space and how much volume you intend to do. Morso guillotine (or double mitre saw for higher volume) Underpinner: Alfamacchine, A+Automation, Giele. Sadly Cassesse just went bust. Mountcutter: Keencut and Fletcher are the two hand mountcutter brands, CMC's I can recomme...
