Re: Morso blades - where to buy?

I purchased Framers Corner blades and in my opinion they lasted longer before sharpening than Morso. I always had my blades sharpened at the same place so there is no difference in the quality of sharpening. I reckoned to get about 50% more life out of Framers corner blades than Morso before sharpen...

Re: Mounting images on 5mm ply & hardboard in tray frames

I always use screws. I have had to take them out on occasion and screws make it easy without strain on the artwork

Re: Underpinner Problem

Well spotted Steve. I would say that is the complete answer to the problem. It wouldn't matter bringing the top pad right down because the pin has already gone in to the moulding before clamp pressure. It looks like you are using polymer mouldings which are very soft so the problem is synchronisation.

Re: Do I need a multimaster?

If you want to avoid the cost of the multimaster, you can easily drive ordinary points into the side of the frame and then staple over the edge of the points. If you were doing a number of these then a multimaster would be better and more professional. I assume you would put backing tape over the jo...

Best of luck Kev. I wondered how much like hard work B&B would be. Itcseems a nightmare if you are relying on the publics' foibles, but bikers should be OK. Mostly full English  We have just packed up and sold everything off, so whats the first thing that happens? yes I need to reframe some...

Re: Resizing a Frame

We used to do a lot of these, predominantly for one customer who trawled auctions for antique frames and the gave me them to chop down and frame is smaller oils - also purchased at auction. Some of the paintings were very old and some quite valuable. I always iked resizing the frames, but was a bit ...

Re: Couriers Worldwide

I would not send glass for the simple reason that couriers will not insure it if there is glass in. I normally send it with acrylic if it needs to be finished - and describe the package as a wooden frame. never mention the word "picture"

Re: hand painted white frames, spray or not to spray

I tend to use Dulux Trade Eggshell on a primed and smoothed surface. Three of these coats gives me a good finish, but not the same as a spray finish.

I must admit I keep all details of every customer and job for ever. The invoices are disposed of after 6 years but details of every job and how it was framed and with what go back to 2008. The only personal details of the customer kept after 6 years is his/her phone number. Well, I have loads of pho...

Re: Using a white board when dealing with customers.

We had a white board for putting suppliers order requirements on. I marked it out into columns in permanent marker with supplier and account details plus the phone number, then when we needed any supplies we used to add that on the list in removable marker.

Worked really well.

Re: shop lease renewal

This assumes that your High Street is the same as it was 10 years ago and that there are no empty shops lurking nearby. It also assumes that your Business Rates are no worse than 10 years ago (regarding valuation - not actual sum paid) It also depends whether your lease has an "upward only"...

I do submit VAT digitally - well I do it online from my Excel spreadsheet which calculates the amount of VAT required. All I do is transfer that to the HMRC website. However, I am led to believe that this form of "digital" is not good enough and accounts will have to be submitted using &qu...

I have just checked via Firefox and no issues. I don't like Chrome, but probably because every time I use Internet explorer I keep getting asked if I want to "upgrade' to Chrome - which I don't.

Re: Advice on drymounting please

One thing I would advise is don't learn using a customer's work. :o never a truer word spoken. I have made some expensive cock-ups on customers work that have cost serious money to rectify. Pitfalls are numerous and I would whole heartedly recommend the course route. Its worth the petrol money, eve...

Re: Underpinning ash

As one who did lots of these mouldings and made 100's of frames a year, I can tell you now that the advice given is spot on. It will drive you round the bend cutting these on a morso - having to replace your blades with sharp one every 30/40 frames and joining is horrendous. Having a pneumatic under...
