Re: making multi compatment frames

Yes, very nice jobs, Steve.

Was the Morissey shirt cleaned, or did it come in with his sweat still on?! (I expect you told the customer about outgassing if it was sweaty!) :D

Re: making multi compatment frames

Hmmm, prospero....do you think Mark will need two union cards then?

(Got to be some 'compartmentalize' gag somewhere in this thread, but I'm resisting the urge manfully.)

Re: making multi compatment frames

Yes, as I hit 'post' I thought that'd be the case! You are obviously extremely capable and versatile. Have you got onto any cabinets makers' forums - perhaps they'll give you some pointers on techniques, short-cuts and kit. With my rustic DIY knowledge, it sounds like a decent router would be worth ...

Re: making multi compatment frames

Hi Mark,

I wonder if a local (retired?) chippy could knock them up.....maybe cheaper than you can, as they'll have all the kit?

But maybe you want the satisfaction of doing it yourself, and going the other route would diminish your control / profit.

Re: Float mounting tape?

Great stuff as ever, prospero. Yes, it was sod's law she painted something she likes so much on a dodgy substrate.....be maybe that's why it's nice: done freely without any expectations/pressure. My ambition is to get to the stage where I just know as much as y'all have forgotten about framing! :cla...

Re: Float mounting tape?

If I may piggyback this thread: My Mrs has an oil painting she really likes - done on thick card. I know/she knows to forget conservation with something painted on glorified cardboard! When I say cardboard, it's that grey strawboard (as I know it). Anyway, we want to end up with it float mounted beh...

Re: Massive Mouldings

Just ordered those books, Mark....thanks again. Hand finishing sounds like a 'must' for framers: whether it's assuaging the problem of damage/defects, giving so much more stock flexibility/choice for customers, or getting more value from cheaper moulding, it feels like a no-brainer. And as a Brucie ...

Re: Who else has been affected by the snow and ice

Wow, best of luck, Jerome....that is proper cold.

My Mrs was telling me about a Youtube clip she saw from The States, in which someone threw a pan of boiling water in the air outside....and it froze mid-air!

Stay safe & warm, everyone.

Re: Potential Newbie seeks advice

Hi again Devon Lad, I just re-read your initial post on this thread, and I have some further thoughts (for whatever they’re worth). Some of it echoes what people like Pete, Prospero & Mark have already offered up. As I am always happy to point out: I am very wet behind the lug-holes, when it com...

If you do opt for wood, maybe use an exterior preserver (Ronseal etc) They do a lot of colours these days.

Re: Potential Newbie seeks advice

Welcome, Devon Lad. This forum is a mine of information - you came to the right place. I'm very new myself but, as someone said to me early on, take time to go through as many threads on here as you can - there's a lot of great stuff. Pete, so interesting that you mention the 'goodwill' issue. I alw...

Re: Workbench

Thanks again, all. Prospero, great point on coverings...sounds like your bench top is plusher than my living room! Reminds me of that old Viz gag: "Get that luxury carpet feeling all over your home for less....by strapping two bits of wood covered in expensive carpet to your feet" Pete &am...

Thanks for your replies, guys.

I agree it is fraught with danger to courier such a delicate bit of kit, so it won't be happening.

Sending a mount cutter via courier...

Hi All, Does anyone have any experience / advice for sending a sizeable (e.g.48") mount cutter via post/courier or whatever, please? Is it a real no-no....or has anyone done it safely without it costing silly money? Collection in person is not an option, as it's hundreds of miles away. Thanks. :)
