Best screws?
Can anyone share their opinion on best screws for pictures that 2mm glazed at around 900mm x 700mm. I am using double D-rings and my preference is for posidrive screws. I think I have been using 3/8 x 4 countersunk so far with no problems but they always seem so small for such a relatively large pic...

Roboframer, do you make rebate spacers for box frames out of foamboard? I have been buying white fillets for £1.5 / metre or so...

Re: Best method of attaching fillets (or do I mean Slips?)
Apologies Prospero for my poor description, as Roboframer guessed I meant rebate spacers.... What sort of glue should I use? I want to keep the frame servicable in case of glass breakage. The thing that comes to mind is that white rubbery glue that stunk in a sort of pleasant way that I used to use ...

Best method of attaching fillets (or do I mean Slips?)
Hi I recently built some deep box frames, I noticed that on one of the fillets after transporting had detached from the inside of the frame, I had to disassemble and redo. I am a little worried that this may happen whilst in the customer possession. I had attached them with double sided tape, I used...

Glazing for international shipping?
Hi all I need to prepare a small frame (60cm x 50cm) for international freight. Glass is a non starter and I have tried to do a little research on acrylic/styrene/perspex etc alternatives at a reasonable cost. Does anyone have any advice for plastic glazing and their relative pros and cons, what sho...

Wanted - mat/mount cutter
Hi I am looking for a mat cutter, I have had a quick look at Ebay and for my budget (around £120) I seem to be able to afford things like 2nd hand Keencut lasers, arrow and ultimats which have generally been selling for between £90 and £140. If anybody has a spare suitable cutter, minimum capacity 4...

Re: Best blade for a mitre saw...
little update... I cut enough cut mouldings for 25 frames and took them into a very helpful local picture framer that was prepared to assist by helping out with their underpinner (I was in a great rush and had not managed to acquire an underpinner from ebay in time). They looked at my mitre cuts and...

Re: When to switch to acrylic
Hi Robframer, would you consider 90cm x 70cm ( 0.63sqm) OK to be used with glass and a rebate spacer?

Re: Best blade for a mitre saw...
Just to feed back as promised. I bought one of these CSB/CC25480T ( http://www.sawshop.co.uk/10-extra-fine-finish-c-1209_1402_1959_1971_1974/trend-mitre-saw-crosscutting-254mm-dia-csb-cc25480t-p-170722498 ) but for around £30 on Ebay. I decided on negative rake because that is what the very high end...

Re: Best blade for a mitre saw...
OK after much deliberation and reading up about saw blades I have invested in a 80t, negative rake, TCT, ATB cut blade, phew. The best that I can afford at the moment (around £35). I had considered a mitre trimmer but since I thought I would cut to exact size using my home made jig stop for the Dewa...

Re: Best blade for a mitre saw...
Thanks Prospero I went to a combined marker and car boot sale where I knew there were a few quality, low priced tool vendors. I didnt realise there were so many sizes of circular blades. Couldnt see anything near 60t never mind 80t or 100t saws at 250mm there. I think I will go for a Freud 80t blade...

Re: Best blade for a mitre saw...
Thank you all for your feedback. I have just been to check, the blade I am using is 60T and eerrr ahh hemmm its a silverline blade (it came with the saw!), its not the best I know, I will change it immediately for as high a tooth count and as good a make as possible, ( I think around 80 to 96 teeth ...

Best blade for a mitre saw...
I don't have the funds or space at the moment to buy a guillotine but I do have a good quality DeWalt Mitre saw. I have asked if this is suitable for cutting moulding and although its not the normal method people have told me they can be used if set up right. I understand that some of the very top o...

Hi all.... looking forward to learning
Hi All just had a nightmare 6 months framing pictures for my partner who is an artist. I have been buying often slightly bent pieces of wood from B&Q taking them home, routing them into various profiles, cutting with a mitre saw, glue and nailing them together with home made band clamps before f...
