Re: morso pushing

Hi Elly

It could be any of the above, but I have had problems with new blades cutting ash. I find that it has to be nibbled at one notch at a time, but now I use the chop saw which gives a perfect joint

Re: Compressor inspections

Many thanks Guys for this information. I have checked my insurance policy and it is very vague on what is/is not covered in terms of pressure equipment, but there is a specific note on steam pressure vessels (boilers) but not on air systems. The point that JFeig makes is very valid in that there is ...

Re: New to Matting - want to move onwards

Hi Chris and welcome Nick is absolutely dead on. There is an old saying from woodworkers and that is that buy the best tools you can possibly afford because its only those that will give you professional results. It doesnt really matter how good you are manually doing any of these tasks, but without...

Compressor inspections

Hi Like most of us, I use air compressors to run the underpinner and CMC and was wondering whether it is necessary to inspect these compressors for insurance purposes. I remember years ago we had "engineering insurance" which covered pressure vessels, but I currently do not have any specif...

There is a lot of hot air spoken about "environmentally friendly" this and "carbon footprint" that but those spouting this stuff are using electricty in the media or paper for printed word - or even worse standing outside an empty building at 10pm at night with a mssive film crew...

Re: Framing Morale required!

Hi V-Nail Sad to hear you are having problems. We all do- even when experienced. Cant really comment on the mount cutteras we are computerised and dont even own a manual one, but on your morso it is a good idea to check blade alignment. The two blades should make a perfect Vee and be equal at the bo...

Re: new to the business!

Hi Biscuit Welcome to the world of framing. I believe that the best solution is always to buy the best equipment you can afford and all woodworkers will tell you the same. It pays handsomely in the long run. The excalibur 5000 is an excellent tool and is far better than doing it by hand. We used to ...

Re: Chipping on Moulding Corners

Robo has the answers here, but expanding further - any gesso style moulding is prone to chipping even with sharp blades in morsos and I have a long list of mouldings that I use on the chopsaw. The answer is a decent quality chopsaw which is worth its weight in gold.

This is crazy isn't it? NOBODY (person) has to pay a fee to have a radio and listen to its content. Yet it is being argued that a licence is necessary to listen to said radio by all those people who can listen to it for free. if they wandered in to the shop with a ghettoblaster playing music, would ...

Re: Storage of mouldings - Horizontal or Vertical?

Hi Fusion We have stored mouldings in bothe directions. In the last unit we had I stored them vertically, but to be honest it was difficult to quickly identify what we had in stock without moving loads - and then they would drop off the racks and damage. Our current unit is much larger and we carry ...

Re: Under-pinners

Huh I have just sold an Ultimo on ebay today which went for an astounding 20 quid. Problems with them are that mountboards slump and end up with a bow in them. We use plan chests now - loads of em, but then we have over 50 mountboards in stock and a pile of Arqadia I bought at auction last year (250...

Re: what too do with broken/waste glass

Glass seems to be designated a controlled waste these days so long gone the days when you could nip off to the tip and sling it in a skip. Most glass suppliers offer a service for collecting cullage (off-cuts) which is very reasonable. They provide a plastic box and when you re-order glass they coll...

Well, of all our moulding suppliers, we used to have most from Simons. The largest selection and the best prices. The trouble is the damage when we recieve it. Re: Moulding offcut storage

We use the vertical storage method but offcuts get attached to full lengths with pallet wrap. That way it keeps batches together so that there is uniformity in the mouldings. We used to have the box storage method but they came out damaged after rummaging through for one bit (usually unsuccessfully)...
