Re: Here's a The Good, The Bad and The Ugly from me!
Hello Nick. Thanks for your comments. There is probably a bit more definition in real life than in the photo. The photo is perhaps a little on the dark side too so perhaps you would see it differently if you were to see the real thing. I had originally decided on a gold slip as the teacup and saucer...

Re: Here's a The Good, The Bad and The Ugly from me!
Here’s the finished painting and frame. This is frame number 31 for me and is beginning to get closer to the frames I see in my mind’s eye. Onwards and upwards!!

Thanks Justintime. I'd be interested in a price too, can anyone throw a few ballpark figures around? The frame is for a 5x8 painting.

Re: Here's a The Good, The Bad and The Ugly from me!
That's one of the reasons there's so much waste, Mark. I had also glued two moulding lengths together before trying to cut it. It was just impossible as it wouldn't stay stable so I ended up using more moulding to make two separate frames then gluing them together, one inside the other. They had to ...

Here's a The Good, The Bad and The Ugly from me!
Hello all. Really thought I'd lose the plot making this frame. I thought it would be straightforward but I wasted so much time and material I almost gave up in frustration. So...the good, I'm happy with the finished frame The bad, all the moulding under the finished frame I used/wasted in the proces...

Tiny workspaces
Hello. Does anyone have a small workspace? I mean really small! What's the smallest space anyone here works in and does anyone have photos or tips for maximizing what space they do have?

Thanks SteveG!
Rainbow...that hidden face is so hidden even I didn't know it was there!
It's just a painting of a lady with tattoos, nothing else. Tattooing is what I do for a job so it sometimes spills over into what I paint.

Re: Latest frame and some progression
Hello. Thanks for the replies. Justin, I'll have a look for the book you mention. Perhaps I can get a second hand one. I used that particular mount because I had a piece spare and couldn't order anything different. Mark, thank you as always for your encouragement. Perhaps I will be able to sell some...

Latest frame and some progression
Hello all. Hope everyone is doing ok during these strange times. I've not worked for 6 weeks now but have been using the time to try and improve my framing skills. Just finished this frame and thought I'd share for feedback. I'm always slightly concerned at sharing my frames here as I'm sure they're...

Re: Setting up a work station / work bench in your home.
Hello Mark. The conservatory is 11'11" x 8'7" so pretty small but it's the only space I have at the moment whilst I'm still learning the basics. It is like an oven during the summer and a ice box in the winter hence my desire to insulate the roof. Hoping to do it fairly soon and make the r...

Re: Setting up a work station / work bench in your home.
I'm trying to set up a small workshop in my conservatory but as the days get a little sunnier, it becomes to hot to work in after mid morning and will be like an oven in a couple of months time. So before I can work in there I need to insulate the roof. It's just clear plastic corrugated sheeting ju...

A new frame, a new painting and an attempt at gilding
Hello all. Hope everyone's keeping well in these worrying times. As an artist, tattooist and musician, my income has evaporated overnight. However, it does mean I have more time to paint and continue learning how to make frames. This one is handfinished with black shellac, wax polished and for the f...

Re: Basic hobby set up?
Tinweasel, I have a Logan Studio Joiner and it's great for my purposes. I also have a Logan mountcutter too which is great too. I only do a small amount of framing just now so I'd look to upgrade later but I'm making some nice frames just now with just a few pieces of equipment. Going to buy a Nobex...

Re: My choice
Very nicely done! Weirdly, I know where those boats are. They're the much photographed old fishing boats at Salen on the Isle of Mull in Scotland. Took almost the same photo myself a few years ago.
