Funny how the size of the frame doesn't appear prominently in the details, surely if you were buying one of these you would be looking for one of the right size or do you just fill it with a cheap old master copy from China

Auction houses aren't that good at giving people what they need to know...

Back in the 1970's antique dealers were taking frames like that to companies who striped pine doors to get the gesso striped off so they could sell them as antique pine frames. Such a terrible waste!

These days you don't see very many really nice old frames anymore and most customers no longer appreciate them all that much either.

I used to get asked to resize old frames to fit smaller pictures quite a lot at one time, but our local auction sale room has closed down and gone and so have the requests to resize frames, or fit mirrors into older style frames. It's a real pity, since I used to make quite good money from such work, but I haven't done anything to that for a while now!
