Thanks all
to answer Alans question we made the profiles in various sections on the moulder and mitred to fit around a flat square frame section with a rebate in it
we then added the pillars also made on the moulder
we have some more projects going on including a some hand carved sections and a Georgian repro carved by hand

the Black and gold section was made by carving the mouldings but gilding, painting over the gold and scratching a pattern in to the paint to show the gold underneath.
think it's called Sgraffito
