Hi All,
Recently having had 14 old tapestries in to reframe, I was shcoked to find that they had ALL been stuck at the side with what I could only describe as either Copydex or heavy PVA. The 2 clients in question would have liked them 'Laced' and padded.
To remove the glue I used my wife's hairdryer (more than she has used it lately), and SLOWLY and GENTLY softened the glue just enough to remove the tapestry from its hardboard backing. It took a while, but the efforts will be well rewarding in 2 ways
1. Knwoing that you were able to actually to it
2. The clients were ever so grateful, knowing that their work is now properly protected, preserved, laced and framed properly.
Steven
PS
Using a Hot hair Paint Stripper instead of a hairdryer, WILL NOT work, far too much heat on such a small amout of material and glue, it will actually burn both the material and the glue.
