undersize mount cutter

Post by markw »

I read with interest the thread about oversize mount cutting and the various approaches to this difficult problem. one of the handiest bits of kit for cutting large (not jumbo size) mounts is a pair of stepladders. At five foot three getting over the top of a large mount to apply the right pressure is almost impossible - the solution was a wall mounted mount cutter - and the step ladder - you are right over the top of over large cuts - and all normal cuts at eye level. my climbing up and down ladders to cut a mount amuses my wife who's quite tall - so, double bonus. As for cutting jumbo mounts - i am waiting for computerised mount cutters to drop just a bit further in price - in the meantime i use a local framer who has a wizard - to have a large accuratly cut mount without hassle is worth spending a few pounds - and i pass it on to the customer with a profit margin applied.
