As one of the early Nest adopters this has given me cause for concern.
At first sight I took this for hype and probably what is meant is that Google are ceasing further development of this product and would no longer support it, but no, it turns out that (just outside of the warranty period) Google intends to brick the hardware making it totally unusable.
I should have been smarter, this is the kind of stuff that can happen when a product relies on an iCloud server over which I have no control.
But with the mighty Google behind it what could have possibly have gone wrong? Right?
