Letter written to the editor of the Telegraph last week, just demonstrating another example of lunacy.
'SIR - As a pariotic Englishman, I decided that I would put up a flagpole and fly the flag. Despite their height, flagpoles can be erected without planning permission, as long as only national flags are flown.
Being a moonraker I have also flown the Wiltshire flag, but this must stop because I was reported to the planning authorities.
Believe it or not, I can fly the flag of Iraq or North Korea, but unless I apply for planning permission for the pole and pay £75, our county flag is banned. '
How would that go down in places like Cornwall, where the county flag is flown with pride and a sense of belonging.
