Just wondering what happens to my FB page after I die

Prompted to ask this question as I still get birthday reminders from Face Book of friends long dead.
I notice some people even post on the deceased page some nice comments
But if your executor doesn't know your pass word to delete the page, then I assume the FB page will remain years after you have gone.

And its not just FB, only this week a I got a suggestion from LinkedIn " People you may know" It was Ricky from Barnard Castle frames who sadly died back in the Spring.

That's the little glimpse of you, that remains after you have gone! Once you put something on these social media sites, it becomes part of their assetts and the fact that people may want to access, what you've left behind is a potential income to the organisation who owns the website. Large scale digital storage is very cheap these days, but the potential to earn future income from selling access to the information, or from advertising will continue long after you are no longer here.

Everything, which you delete, just gets the file marked with a deleted attribute, just because it does not appear to be accessible by normal means, does not mean that it is no longer accessible. Future family members, if they are interested will probably be able to pay a fee to access everthing that you have ever posted, or accessed via the internet. Family history is already a big money maker and is probably going to remain so.

I contacted FB and asked them to delete your page, (see my signature) but I'm not telling when I did this :giggle:

as I understand things, and if you are of a mind to then you can nominate Facebook friends to take control of your Facebook page in the event of your death, there is a process for this on Facebook.

I guess an alternative would be simply to supply a trusted friend with all your login credentials and they could log in as you and delete the profile.
