Forum Video Jukebox

Post by Mr Bojangles »

Going off the thread "what are you listening to" what could be better than a forum video jukebox.
You tube has all the classics so should not be a problem finding your favourites. Also discover what your fellow members are listening too.

So here goes a couple of classics from my collection enjoy!

What a stonkingly good idea, Gary! Well impressed!! 8) :D

I have a little suggestion: for people playing catch-up, might it be a good idea to prefix links with a hint of what's in the vid? Might as well start my contributions with a couple of my MTV faves from the eighties.

Waterfall - Wendy & Lisa (formerly two of Prince's purple people - lots of big hair and a very beautiful woman (Wendy Melvoin) who knows her way around a guitar! Track contains a very Gilmouresque solo. 8) )

True Faith - New Order - great track, and a prime example of pop-vid elevated to artform, IMO. 8)

I try to limit my visits to YouTube as it doesn't tend to do a lot for my productivity...

Wendy sure looks great! I'd like to see more of her! Not really my style of music though.

Being really old, I prefer stuff like this:

Eagles - "How Long", which is my current favourite song!

Gary - just wot you did there, mate! Anyone reading will know the link is to a Waterboys song! :)

The Frozen vid is beautiful: nice one. Prospero. Long time since I've seen it.

----

Some other early eighties stuff:

Hazel O'Connor (sorry 'bout the naff home-made vid, but the sound quality on the vid vid was pants. )

A little bit of Madness (so many great vids to choose from!)

While I'm at it, here's the Spitting Image version.

Which leads me naturally to this classic Genesis video.

More 'politics' from Re-Flex. Video is naff, but great dance track. (Good sound quality on this!) :) Another good electro-funk number from the early eighties was "Move On" by Fashion. (It's on YouTube but the quality is so dire I didn't bother to post a link).

While on vids with 'political' motifs, try this one from the Frankies! (It has the full fight sequence). Good track on the motorway, but would not put it on at home. However, I loved their alternative Pleasuredome 12" mix - great driving music. 8) Nearest I could find online is this version: hacked up a bit, and doesn't have the "In song and in dance...." intro.)

I love the blues and swing. Jools Holland is one of my favourites and I've seen him so many times.

After the first time I saw the big band I started playing the Sax. The old Glen Miller band tunes and the other big band sounds are fantastic to listen to.

One of the best musicians I've seen on his show was Seasick Steve.

This guy has an amazing story you can check it out at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seasick_Steve

The first band I remember being into was Madness. 2Tone Ska is great to play and listen to. Of course The Specials were local boys. :D

Couple of mellow numbers for the wee hours.... To start, a couple of my 'Guilty Pleasures'...

Arms of Mary (Sutherland Brothers and Quiver)

Angie Baby - Helen Reddy (again, apols for the accompanying animation).

A few that might be more to Ormond's taste...

Rose of Cimarron(Poco)

Witchy Woman (Eagles) (sorry for naff vid, best of a bad lot for studio versions of the track).

A touch of Steely Dan....

Don't Take Me Alive

Aja

FM

And to round off the night, more great sax work and a moody '70s classic (no mog intended... )

Pipeline (Alan Parsons Project)

(Pinball - Brian Protheroe)

It's easy to embed You Tube clips in the forum.

Just enter the YouTube reference number between the youtube tags, like this.
The YouTube reference number is everything after the v= in the URL

So, for example, if this is the URL
Then this is what you enter into the text box when you are posting: -

Code: Select all

And this is the result

For me, the truth of the above statement is clinching proof that God is a fundamentally benign entity! :)

Some Ferry solo classics from the '70s...

Under the Oriental Influence?

The Price of Love sounds just as good 32 years on! (Count 'em and weep!) Sorry for the slightly ropey sound quality. (Fwiw, it doesn't make Jerry Hall look any less beautiful, or Bryatollah less handsome for that matter! )

And before Prospero nabs all the great Roxy stuff off YT...

Viva Roxy Music! If you are a Roxy fan, but have never seen them live, go while you still can. You will not be disappointed! 8)

A Masterclass in Cool (and Ferry at his knee-trembling best! Be still my beating heart!!! 8) ) A travesty that this track didn't chart for longer...

Wish more of their album tracks were on YT: Roxy are so much more than their - impressive - singles collecttion, or a copy of Avalon (the album I like least). A-n-y-w-a-y, here's a deliciously bluesy track from their (much underrated, IMCO) Manifesto album. (Brilliant picture disc for this one. The only thing that comforts me about never owning a copy of it is that my late mother would have slung that out along with the rest of my vinyl.   )

Ain't That So

Finally, let's move on from 'bluesy' Roxy to some classic, plain ol' blues... Whose round is it anyway?

(John, tried the embedding, but it has already been pointed out just how prolific a poster I already am, and if I was to use the embedding technique in this thread (which is really easy!), my posts would be so long I'd need to go to confession!  )

Actually, I didn't (there are still a few episodes of Ted that I've yet to see). Do tell more!

Nice one! :)

What's with all the clip bubbles (in full-screen mode) on this snippet? Not noticed that on YT before.... :?
