Minor Glitches?

Post by Moglet »

From another thread...
Roboframer wrote:Talking of technical problems I see John made a post as 0735 today and I can't see it, also after reading the topic it is still marked unread! Wot's goin' on?
Robo, I'm glad that you posted this, as I've noticed similar over the last few weeks (especially the topic appearing as "Unread" even after reading the posts. I thought it was down to me not navigating through the site properly (a distinct possibility... ).

J, as well as observing the same problem as Robo, a couple of times over the last few days, I noticed that, although I was logged on, my user name didn't appear in the "Who's Online" list (it reappeared after a browser window refresh). Just thought I'd report it in case it' might be a symptom of a lurking problem. :)

Thanks for the info guys, I'll keep an eye on this.

I have had notification of new posts on a topic, but when I visit the topic there are no new posts there.

FYI J, just got the above error message when accessing the "More Smilies" page. FWIW, I've had minor problems with the extra smilies recently, in that the BBCode appears in the Smilies window, but not in the reply I'm writing.

Do you 'navigate'?

I just click on 'View new posts' and then click on each 'View first unread post icon in turn. Actually I command-click* on the icons so that each post opens as a fresh tab. That way all the unread posts are available in fresh browser tabs waiting to be be read.

The advanatage of that method is that there's n navigation involved. I guess a disadvantage is that if any new posts don't get tagged as new posts then I won't see them. But then I wouldn't know about that as I wouldn't see them.

*The PC equivalent might be control-click but I'm a Mac sort of guy.

 It all looks normal to me. The post boxes are alternating shades of grey, but the outer parts all have a white background.

Wasn't it always like that?

It did have a light grey background until yesterday when the administrator, while doing something extremely clever with something totally unrelated, managed to reset it to white.

We may have to live with this for a while.

When I visit the forum, I read new posts topic by topic. If the "New Posts" flag is set against a topic, I then click on the "Go to First Unread" icon next to the topic title.

Are you absolutely sure? :P I rather enjoy mine.

In the interest of accuracy, I read the “light blue” as R: 236, G: 243, B: 247, while the “darker blue” as 225: 235: 242. But since we are closer to Costa Rica, that may explain it.

Got anything in a puce?

But it is the background (R:255, G:255, B:255), Bill, that is maddening the Mogster.

It's not maddening, J. It just hurts me oul' minces (they're very sensitive to brighter lights - always have been). :( Aesthetically, I think the white background actually looks very nice.

Oh - I get it now - you're on about the bit outside/around the posts?

Can't say I noticed any change myself (do we have a shrugging smiley? If not, why not?)
