Frame Design Forum

Post by Roboframer »

It's been suggested a couple of times that this would be a good idea here, a forum to post things you've done.

I've no idea how difficult this would be to set up, but I DO know that there are several existing forums that can be merged, and may as well be.

When I use the search facility for framing-related topics it can get quite frustrating as they could be under

General Discussion
Hints and Tips
Blunders Gaffes and Feck-ups
Outgassing

It's all 'framing' and surely could all be covered in 'General Discussion'

Lose 3; add one?

OK, here's another 'yes'.

However, we need to think about the cost of storing all those images on the server and their permanence - how often do we all find 'image missing' messages? Maybe it could link with something like a FramersForum Flickr account that would provide an easy permanent photo album and might attract a wider audience to see some of our work.

Hi Mike, I appreciate your concern regarding the forum's resources. However, the forum has not really begun to use either the storage capacity, or the bandwidth available to it.

For the technically minded, current usage as of today's date:
Disk Space Used: 604.00 MB of 150000.00 MB (0.40%)
Bandwidth : 1332.90 MB of 1500000.00 MB (0.09%)

As for uploading images, those hosted off-site are the ones that display the 'Missing Image' problem. If the forum is working, the forum server is working, and will have no more difficulty serving up locally stored user images than the graphics used in displaying the forum itself. If the forum is not working, the fact that it can't display users images will be the least of our problems! :)

A dedicated 'look what i did today forum' would be a great idea

I certainly think it would be much more active than 'blunders' or 'outgassing', and even 'hints & tips' seems very similar to the general forum anyway. so why not just merge these into the general forum as Roboframer has already suggested?

It sounds good to me! Should it be restricted to members only, or open for all?
