I have tried sending several PMs,with no joy,they just sit in outbox folder not sent folder.
Anybody any ideas how to send PMs correctly or am I a complete numpty.

You sent them fine, but they sit in your outbox until they are read. It's a useful feature, on most forums you just send and assume; on this one you can see if it's been read or not - yours has/have yet to be read.

Click on the recipient's profile to see when the last visit was; if it was after you sent your PM then s/he may have elected not to be notified of PMs or maybe their PM allocation is full and they need to empty their inbox.
