Very slow down here too.

I thought it was my BB connection. Yet The Grumble loads in < 5secs and other forum type sites the same speed.

JM - Could it be the phpBB Forum Software slowing it down ??

Probably caused by the host doing a spot of housekeeping.
Seems okay at the moment.

I did notice that the forum was slow today, but I thought it was just our tired old XPs. (Maybe Santa will bring us a nice new Windows 8 machine for Christmas.)

Extremely slow here. about 30 seconds per page.

Grumble and other forum sites are up in about 4 seconds.

Mine is extremely slow tonight as well and I live 30 yards (metres as well) from the exchange so have a reasonable download speed.

Obviously not and I suppose I could have worked that out from the facts that it's the same from two different 'puters (one pretty new and one brand new), with different providers in two different buildings and similar sites loading same as usual.

Thanks for all you do, John.

Apologies to everyone for the forums recent speed issues.

Our host, Godaddy, are aware of the problem and are working on a solution.

Hopefully we will soon be back to normal.

Just an up date, it's like the good old days with Dial-up connection before Broadband, it's the same here at work in Bath on BT Broadband and at home in Bristol on Sky Broadband (OK it's the same as BT as Sky uses their network) :head: :xcomputer:

Having spent an hour and seven minutes on the phone yesterday with Godaddy support without really getting anywhere, I’ve come to the conclusion that this is an issue that I’ll have to tackle myself.

I think that the forum may be getting too big for its current shared hosting account and perhaps it is time to move it to either a dedicated server or a VPS (Virtual Private Server).

However this is not an area that I know a lot about and it will take a bit of time to research the best option for us.

In the mean time, I’ll move the forum’s database to a new SQL server in the hopes of gaining some improvement while we are still with our current host. This should cause little or no loss of service.

we had a similar issue with photographyireland at one point which i think runs on the same forum software

what we found after looking for a while was people were not getting their sessions terminated properly, and therefore leaving multiple connections to both the forum and more importantly to the sql server

the hosting company implimentd something which solved the issue, but as a result ment having to log in every time as the session got ditched
