I cut my first mount yesterday. Only took me 4 hours!

What equipment did you use and how did it turn out?

Hi Alan, I bought a second hand 48" Carthiers Signature mountcutter. I had no idea on how to use it but after 4 hours of playing, and moving quickly onto testing on paper I did manage to get one cut. I had to do a lot of manual minor adjusting to get it just right.

I've realised with mounts there is no finer shaving as with mouldings. It's all about the right first cut? Unless I need to change my blades. Lucky it came with about 200 blades.

Tonight I will tackle vgrooving. :D

A groovy tip. :D

Unless I am much mistaken (which I frequently am) the guide bar has to be locked at each end. There should be a v-groove stop at the end nearest to you. You have to twiddle about with this until you get grooves not-too-wide and not-too-narrow. OK. But don't rely on the guide being exactly parallel. You have to be uber-accuarte with grooves. What I did after I got the v-groove stop set was to get a set of drills and find one that fits exactly in the gap between guide bar and cutter bar. Bit like a feeler gauge. Keep this size drill to set the far end before you start grooving. Your grooves will be spot-on parallel every time. :P

Hi propspero, do you have a carithers signature mountcutter too?

I'm sorry, I wish I could understand what you mean. Sorry, I'm new to this and am not familiar with many things.
