Questions..

Postby Gary » Wed Apr 15, 2009 2:54 am

Hi, im Gary from singapore,
Im not a framer but an empolyee of my company.. My boss is though.. he's CPF from PPFA..

Im currently using an old model of the valiani CMC Mat pro 120..

i have a question regarding it,
Do u guys place anything on the blueish base of the machine? that's because everytime i do a cut design, the blade will hit the base, & i would get "scars on the base" so to counter the problem i had, i have to use a 8ply mat board to prevent the scarring... i would like to know is there any cheaper/better solution for this matter? 8ply matboard is really expensive in sg..

Hi Gary

We used to have the older version of the MatPro 120 before upgrading.

We had the same problem and always used 2 (two) sheets of cheap 1400 micron mountboard as slip sheets.

Hope this helps

Hi Gary

We do the same as Merlin and use two sheets of mountboard which we buy as seconds i.e. imperfect from a wholesaler. These cost us GB£1.25 each and less if we buy a quantity. Make sure you use two though as it prevents cutting into the base when you forget to adjust your blade after cutting through two sheets.

I an sure if you ask a supplier for some rejects they will find you some.

John.

My supplier gave me 21 damaged sheets free gratis today…some are quite a mess with marks and footprints but they will be fine for under sheets…….they were going to dump them in the skip…. :D

I have the stainless steel under sheet which means I will only have to use one sheet of mount/mat board as a under sheet.

ok, thanks for your kind answers...

i have another question, let's say my boss uses crescent rag-mat boards (cotton based).. i always encountered burred/jagged edges when i cut out the frame window..

how to prevent that from happening, even when i change into a new blade?

Does this happen when cutting out standard Rectangle/Square apertures or when you try to cut some of your designs.

standard valani squares/rectangles.. does the softness of ragmats have to do with the jag-ness when cutting?
