Anyone know why my lap top won't run this site?
I've got a brand new lap top with high (ish) spec but it doesn't like this site at all! It won't open any of the pages. My old faithful desk top runs it ok but the lap top just won't. Any ideas?

Tell us about your laptop's operating system. Windows XP or Vista?
What browser? Internet Explorer, Firefox?

I'm not sure why there should be a difference, perhaps some of our IT gurus can explain, but sometimes I can access the forum with http://theframersforum.com but not with http://www.theframersforum.com and vice versa
When you have trouble with one form of the address, try the other.

Try Firefox, I had a problem accessing a site a while back which was really annoying - it was my own website !. Quite happily viewed it from every other pc I tried.
Can you open http://www.lrboards.com/forum/
This uses the same forum software.
Also what error (if any) are you seeing when trying to open a page ?.

Hi Pat i don't get any error message it just loads half the page, if you look back over the last few posts i've been trying to reply after each message was posted! thats how long it's taking to load a page. I've also tried accessing it through both the links john recommened but it's the same with both. i tried the link you posted about the other forum and that runs ok!!

Is this laptop direct from the suppliers ?. Are you using vista basic, thinking maybe Javascript not working/configured properly.
By half a page do you literally mean half a page from top to bottom or is it just half of the page components ?.
Is the slow loading indicated on the progress bar at the bottom of IE ?.
You can also try (briefly) disabling your anti virus software and try again. I have had an occasion when Zone Alarm took over completely and ground my pc to a halt. Happy after a reboot. Check hard disk light is not on continuously when accessing the site.
Is Firefox working ok ?

i've tried disabling the virus software and the firewall, doesn't work. I'm running vista home edition and the lap top came from pc world. not tried fire fox yet. when it loads it loads the page without any buttons or icons, i'm getting better at judging where they are though so at least i can reply! The hard drive light isn't on permanently but i've found that if i click a button then minimise and maximise the page it sometimes loads.

A member of another forum seems to have had a similar problem.

Could be that it is a Vista thing that will get sorted by installing the new service pack.

Found this on another forum, it looks very promising.
Bring up the command prompt Click Start, Type cmd and press enter.
Key in the following line and press return:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled
If the command returns this response, "Set global command failed on
IPv4 The requested operation requires elevation", then you need to do
this:
Click start (windows symbol), Accessories, right click on "Command
Prompt", then choose "Run as Administrator", then try the netsh
command (above) again.
