Networking
You get the Server Not Available error on an EstLite Client when the client’s access to its data is being obstructed.
This can occur for two reasons, either the sharing permissions on the data folder on the server have not been set, or have been set incorrectly, or a third party application such as an antivirus program or a firewall is blocking access.
The source of the error can be determined by a process of elimination as can be seen from this transcript of a recent support session:
Stcstc: just rebooted my secondary machine
Stcstc: when start est comes up saying server not vailable
Stcstc: but can get to it to setup again
Stcstc: when i do comes up with a list out oif bounds error

EstSupport: Has there been any recent Avast updates?
Stcstc: not sure

Stcstc: says list out of bounds still
Stcstc: list index out of bounds (o)
Stcstc: what AV u use, might remove from this machine
EstSupport: Some of my machines use nothing at all, but on a couple I use Microsoft Security Essentials
EstSupport: Watch out though, some of these AV programs are even more difficult to remove than a virus
Stcstc: ok removed avast, and rebooted, came up with server not available
EstSupport: Looks like a sharing problem
Stcstc: removed est and re installed too
EstSupport: Are you using password protected sharing?
Stcstc: yes
EstSupport: That could be the problem, I don't use it
Stcstc: just changed it to share with everyone with full control
Stcstc: nope that didnt fix
EstSupport: Can you open a file, say matin.txt on your remote using notepad?
Stcstc: ya
EstSupport: What firewall do you use?

Stcstc: will try disabling now on server machine

Stcstc: can see the main one from here inc read and write to drive
EstSupport: Is the Est folder set to share with Homegroup?
Stcstc: root of drive set to share with everyone
Stcstc: with full access
EstSupport: Yes, but is it set to share with homegroup?
Stcstc: dont use homegroup
Stcstc: thats a win7 home thing
Stcstc: isnt it
EstSupport: Yep
