Glass cloth / wipes

Post by pramsay13 »

I'm needing a new roll of glass wipes and just wondering what other people use.

Plenty kitchen tissue. I get mine from Tesco, BTW, if you haven't guessed it already "Plenty" is a brand name.

Yep. Kitchen towels. If you get to LDLs, they sometimes have enormous rolls for £2 - something. Grab a trollyful while you can. :P

Iv only started framing but have been assembling and selling framed photographs from our studio for very long and we always use small synthetic chamois the size of face cloth, just buy loads and wash with your cloths or one there own. but then here in ireland we pay per pick up of the bins :) so paper towles would ruin us :D

I have thirsty pockets  from 'Home bargains' with 'Nilglass' sprayed on.

I then mop up the liquid residue with a dry piece of the kitchen roll.

Finally, a wipe over with a Microfibre cleaning cloth.

I really like those tea towels with 'glass cloth' written on them for uncoated glass.

We use jangro wipes, far superior to anything else we tried, this was recommended by another framer to us we found the advice spot on, Pete someone or other, might have been Bingham, some novice, but I don't mind who I learn off.

We use rags from a local commercial laundrette. They throw out tonnes of the stuff, they bag it up and hand it out. If they've not got any then I ask house clearance people, they've always got bags of old sheets or towels.

Hi chris

I will look it up on Monday for you, the ones we get are quite expensive but a roll lasts us about a year.

CG080 is the roll we use, from Ace Janitorial Supplies,

0114 244 4474 if you tell them you are a framer and you have been recommended he will usually give a decent discount on the stuff.

At £51.80 for 400 sheets that's almost 13p per sheet, and I use 2 for each frame.
It would need to be very decent discount to make that worthwhile.

We used to use kitchen roll, we pay less for these as each cloth lasts a long time, one roll lasts us over a year, the cloth it self is excellent.

If the price worries you you can buy a small pack to test, or go with kitchen roll, that works well too, I found they broke up a little though, causes a flumb or two.
