Morso Blade Spanner

Post by pramsay13 »

I've recently moved workshop and moved things around so don't have a handy spot next to my morso for the blade spanner. Is there a handy place actually on the morso that these can go when not being used?

This is from NYAF school of thought, put a rare earth magnet on the inside of the case, then simply stick it on the side.

Why not use the fence spanner to lock the foot pedal down each night? These lift off easily and are always attached to the machine. You can then keep the spanner with the spare blades as suggested

Just found the correct name to be Morso Fence Handle. They lock / unlock the fences to adjust the angle. These can lift off and also fit the pedal locking nut

Ah interesting, that might be just the ticket.
I've always used the blade spanner for locking the pedal too.

If I as working from home, I would be tempted to do the same for safety reasons

By locking the foot pedal down the blades are lowered so the cutting edge is no longer exposed. A safety feature. Also handy if moving the Morso when cleaning around it or even cleaning and servicing the Morso

I can see the reasoning if moving or cleaning, but to keep the pedal locked down when not in use, will put undue stress on the return springs, shortening their life, IMHO :sweating:

I frame at home and occasionally the kids are in the workshop.
They've been well warned but it would only take a few seconds to do something fairly major so I'd rather be safe than sorry.

Cost of one pair of springs, £56, i.e. the gross profit on a nasty photo frame. My Morso has had its blades locked down for most of the five years I've owned it. And probably most of the ten years before that too. I haven't changed the springs, I'd be pretty sure my predecessor never did either. So spread that £56 over a decade.

So I took my / NYAFs idea with rare earth magnets a little further, and flipping Eck it works a treat, I stuck my spanner to the side of my Morso a few days ago, made well over two hundred frames and it hasn't moved a millimeter.
