Lightning

Post by Ed209 »

I am looking at lightning for our spare room workshop and just looking for advice on the best solutions, current set up is a 100W ceiling light (just a bulb) and a NW facing window.

Fluorescent strip lighting. Three at least - one in the middle, one at each side. Then you won't get shadows.

A very simple immediate solution is to change your bulb for one of these 30w daylight bulbs. Or as James says change the light fitting and fit some of these tubes.

I'm presently looking at replacing all my fluorescent toobs with LED fittings. It's quite complicated
though as there are various ways of doing it. But they apparently use half the lecky, come on straight away
with no flicking and last for yonks. There are tubes you can buy that plug right in a 'standard' fitting, but if
you are starting from scratch best to get fitting+LED tube. I've looked around on the net but most of the ones
I've seen appear to be a bit 'industrial' looking. For carparks and wotnot.

If you go that route and find a good supplier, I for one would be glad of the intel.

I've been replacing my spotlight bulbs with LEDs. 5w instead of 42. Just as bright. :D

That's a good point about daylight tubes.

They are good in a workshop if you work during the hours of darkness (who doesn't). If the
room has windows and gets a bit of real daylight, there will be a dramatic change in light temp
when it gets dark. Even if you have artificial light during the day. This can be a bit off-putting.

For a retail area with hanging pictures a warmer light is better. I put in some daylight tubes once
and the place had the look of a mortuary.

Our lights are pretty bright so we can see what we are doing, see all the bits under the glass, not for colour matching, over the design desk we have two LED spots, something like these http://www.diy.com/departments/xq-lite- ... 196_BQ.prd we also have them over the CMC
