CANVAS PRINTS

Post by Bobble »

Is it safe to dry mount canvas prints? Some on-line purchases are on cheapo canvas and the larger versions can be problematical.
Any 'brave' solutions besides sticky board, folks?
Thanks, B.

I've never tried it and I don't relish the prospect.

Thing is, they are not all the same. It might be OK with one but another from a different source might go pear-shaped.

I'd be happier wet mounting to MDF using PVA. Messy and long winded, but safer.

I've framed a lot that have been mounted onto board but they were mounted and then treated with protective coating afterwards.
Not sure how some coatings would react to heat.

Aye, sticky board etc doesn't seem to work all the time as Prospero has already mentioned. I just stick (no pun intended) it down with some PVA that's gone a little tacky... plop the canvas on, give it a good go with the rollers and leave it weighed down with something. The paranoid side of me keeps checking though - just for bubbles & the like but so far it's been good.

For wet mounting you can't beat two sheets of 3/4" chipboard.

Chipboard/release paper face-up/board/PVA/print/release paper face-down/foam blanket/chipboard/back the car on top.

Leave as long as poss or overnight.

If you can't back the car on it, pile as much heavy stuff on top as you can. :P

Thanks Friends,
Satisfied I'm improvising OK - sad there's no wonder product out there to speed up procedures.
Um, Prospero/Featurepiece, if you park your jam jar on it overnight, is it bus pass home time? Mine's still a virgin! B.
