Printed titles/names on mountboard

Post by Framemaker Richard »

Looking for someone that has a fine art printer that can do title plaques directly on mountboard, not on mounts but just on a piece of mountboard that will then be put in a title window cut-out.

A CMC that has a pen/writing head is another idea, but I think the printer would be simpler/easier to do..

I would let you know the mountboard colour, a close colour match to what you keep in stock would be fine, we would probably want 2 or 3 fonts in 1 or 2 ink colours.

let me know if you're interested in doing this.

I'm just wondering why you want it on mountboard rather than on paper, as it's going under a cut-out?

Paper would be absolutely fine as long as it's a close colour match to whichever mountboard is being used.

You could get the mountboard colour exactly matched and then printed onto the paper with text. It would be quite easy to do as once you find the colour codes you could simply note them down, create the background layer in photoshop and then just place the text as a separate layer on top.

Or the same subject, here are some samples from an innovative framer who has stopped buying colours from his regular supplier,
and now prints the colours he requires. So from just one stock item, he now prints what ever colour he needs.
Including colours not available from his stockist
And only prints the area needed, so can use the unprinted fall out for another job.

Is this the way all mount boards might go in the future?

Not all. Most (? - a good chunk of, anyway) of the framers on here are one-man bands who will never want to have a printer of that quality.

Soon we will have affordable 3D printers and will be able to print frames out whatever colour needed.
No cutting and joining. All in one lump. :D

Shouldn't think so, might be alright once in a while, but in normal productions, it will be very time consuming, we do a lot of cutting of mounts while the customer waits, normal response "how long will it take " ours now is " Five minutes " as we only carry less than 100 colours, so choosing doesn't take that long. But if in the future it could be,
get all the colours out,
can't choose one ,
maybe a shade between these two, :lipssealed:
so do a test print,
start the printer ,
cut some card, load it, wait for it to print ( go and make a cup of coffee) :coffee:
damn out of magenta ink,
got to find the new ink cartridge,
load it,
re start the printer,
that's just for the test print,
if OK, start on the mount (as above) then get on the CMC, cut the mount, wrap it /give to customer :phew:

My take on it
