I have a customer with a very deep stretched canvas which he wants me to fit in a white float moulding tray.
The canvas depth is 60mm and the customer wants it to finish flush with the moulding with a 10mm gap.
The deepest tray moulding I have been able to find is this https://www.arqadia.co.uk/productdetail ... 127&id=192. However it has rebate depth of 'only' 48mm.
One solution would be to reduce the width of the rebate tray to 10mm by planing or routing and then flush fit the canvas frame to the back of the moulding using brackets. This would achieve the necessary depth (58mm).
How would others approach this or can you suggest a supplier of any deeper rebate float mouldings

Re: Extra deep float moulding
You could go this route, using Simons http://www.djsimons.co.uk/index.php?rou ... bec%2F0105
Cut and join it upside down, pop a bit of MDF in and paint white, the sample I have is 62mm deep (rebate depth) so with some 2mm MDF glued in place, it should work, we use it a lot for one of our regular artist

Re: Extra deep float moulding
When you wax white frames don't use yellow wax. Liming wax works well IMO.

Thanks, I've just ordered a sample. That way will prove a lot cheaper than the way I was proposing (and easier!)Steve N wrote:You could go this route, using Simons http://www.djsimons.co.uk/index.php?rou ... bec%2F0105

Re: Extra deep float moulding
That's the way I do it and I make quite a number of deep inlay frames.

Re: Extra deep float moulding
Mmmm! That's quite an interesting moulding!
I think I'll get some of that and make some kind of display model for the shop windows, I'm guessing that such a deep box frame moulding may inspire possible ideas from some of those who look in my shop windows.

Re: Extra deep float moulding
The sample has arrived from Simons today and is perfect - thank you for the advice.
I note that Wessex do a similar, even deeper (70mm) moulding https://www.wessexpictures.com/PW176.html
