Matching a moulding. Help please.
I am trying to match this moulding for a customer.
I think it may be a Simons moulding.
Any help appreciated.

Re: Matching a moulding. Help please.
It's not in any of my collection of old Simons catalogues, which go back not far off 20 years, so maybe not. It looks quite familiar, it's not unlike the Euro mouldings Y range? Just a guessing. It was not just Euro mouldings that stocked the Y range, possibly also stocked by Wessex, or Fritons as well.

That's one of the Y range as Mark says. The shape has been around for years but it came in a multitude of finishes.
I'd say that one is long gone.

Not knowing the exact size it looks similar to the Simons Z range or 1709 range. If it isn’t exact it might be a close enough match.

Been looking though the Simons range and they certainly have lots of that profile.
This is the nearest:
Chances are that even if you found the exact same one it wouldn't match up to an old batch.
Easiest way is to find a close match and reframe the original one.

Thank you for responses. I think you are right Prospero, I can get close, but it won't match so reframing the other with the closest one will be the way forward.
Thanks again

What width is the one you're trying to match?
Is Wessex C2385 any good? It's 7/8".

I've always liked that profile. particularly the deep rebate version. I've used loads of it in plain wood but I'm
running out of obeche based stuff and can only get it in oak, which is a bit tricky to work with. Thinking of having some milled up.....

Re: Matching a moulding. Help please.
I have ordered a couple of different Simons mouldings that look close. Many thanks again for suggestions.
It is a nice profile, just been going through my router cutters and I have one which is very similar. I just wouldn't be able to match the finish i need. I may run some through my router table or make a cutter on my spindle moulder.
I use Wealden router cutters so can make a whole load of profiles, so if anyone is needing something particular, it can normally be done.
Might have a play next week if time permits although as well as framing jobs, I have 2 massive gates and a bookcase to make.
Will post results if I do get to mill the profile.
