high end photo print mounting

Post by The Common Framer »

Hi

Large 110 x93 cm photographs - worth an obscene amount of money.

Previous works done in the US for the photographer are float mounted - or at least mounted without having a top / sandwich mount and set back from the glass by around 1.8cm. frame is centrado 9715wh.

I like the econospace idea - but not really deep enough.

I could make foam board spacers on my CMC but will this be good enough to hold without rippling?

Any other suggestions ?

I may decide this is out of my depth given the high cost of the items. ( Small car price each!)

any advice appreciated as usual.

Cheers

MAtt

The framer's biggest nightmare has got to be the knackering of some obscenely expensive artwork left in your care.

Whether you frame it badly or spill coffee on it amounts to the same thing: You got to make amends to the owner.

Insurance is all very well, but it doesn't cover your personal cock-ups. :|

So the moral is: If you aren't confident doing it and you can't afford to compensate/replace out of your own pocket, don't take it on.

The valublest painting I ever did was in the 50-80K bracket. A watercolour. I did it. Best way is to not think about the money.

What about paper wrapped spacers from 4mm up to 25mm I think a la rose n hollis/wessex?
I learnt that stacking archival matt paper prints without tissue between was a mistake. Simply lifting one off the top of the pile left a mark across the one below, never do that again! :Slap:
