Fixing commemoratives

Post by Judders »

I have 12 Beatrix Potter Commemorative Coins to frame in sets of 4 in each frame. The coins are within perspex plaques 75mm square and are 22mm deep. Behind the glass will be a 17mm black spacer. I intend to support the plaques inside 4 window mounts cut reverse. The frame will be plain wood with a 40mm deep rebate. On the back of the top mount I will position 10mm foam core which will butt up to the windows to hold the plaques in position a 10 mm spacer will be added behind and this will help support the black backing board. The question is will this keep the plaques secure without the need for adhesive which the client understandably does not want as

these items are valuable. I thought maybe a rubber adhesive would be OK to use. I would be interested to have some guidance on this assembly. Attached a mock up of the plan to date. Just roughly cut and with a white spacer which will be black in final frame. Thank you

i would have thought that as the items are in little cases it would do no harm to apply a glue to the cases.

A tab of foam double-stick tape behind the plaque would be my choice. That stuff is very strong.

I would do as prospero suggests. Will stick well, is hidden and you would be able to remove adhesive off perspex if they needed to come out by using white spirit or even nail varnish remover.

Thanks for suggestion. Can you specify any particular foam double sided tape there seem to be many available online, but not at Centrado where I buy my stuff. Also the plaques are very clear transparent and the white tape I think would show through, there are black tapes which may be hidden on the black background would that work OK

Thanks

You won't need much but something like this foam tape for number plates will work. Acrylic adhesive will come off perspex and it will not move.
