Brass strip retainers for stretcher bars

Post by Mr_Moose »

Does anyone know a supplier (in UK) for the sort of brass strip used for retaining the stretcher bars of oil paintings in their frames? I think they are usually about 60-70mm long by 12mm wide and 2 or 3mm thick so they can be bent into the correct shape to hold, but not exert too much pressure. If made for this purpose they would be pre-drilled at one end, but that's not essential.

There are canvas 'offsets' for that purpose, though not like you describe exactly. Ones 3mm thick in
solid brass would be far too strong not to mention expensive. Not easily bent either.

Have you looked though the Lion range? https://www.lionpic.co.uk/

I use the bendable plates ref3505/6/7

I use these from Rose & Hollis, come in boxes of 100 and they are about 65mm x 10mm brass plated steel, they are easy to bend into shape with two pairs of pliers. Ref number is HG542 and are only about £6 a box
