Mount and wrap pastlel

Post by Ed209 »

Mounted a fantastic pastel portrait of “Paul Newman” today for the artist to take to a exhibition tomorrow, all well but I was worried about wrapping it in polythene wrap (proper stuff fro Lion) as I felt it might smudge the pastel, I am new to wrapping mounted pictures and photos for display racks etc. And had bought the wrap for a dozen photos I am to mount and wrap, I did look at the bags but the photographer said where she used to get it done they just used a roll of wrap cut to size.
Anyway phoned artist to convey my concerns and she said that pastels she had done before were wrapped but was ok if I would rather not. Feel a bit stupid now but was seriously concerned about damaging her work. I did attempt to wrap and just lightly put the wrap over then moved it away to reposition and noticed a slight bit of pastel dust on the Cellophane, so then started to think this could end badly if I continued

We use print bags, don't bovver with the roll, looks more professional in a print bag IMHO, also it's so damn quick.

If you don't wrap it, how are you gong to store it until she arrives to collect it , without damaging it

We get all our print bags off eBay/ or direct from the ebay supplier, for custom sizes,

We supply empty mounts, backing mounts and print bags to a lot of our artist customers, we try and train them into working to standard sizes, such as 30x40cm, 40x50cm, 50x70cm, we explain to them that if the finished bagged mount is a standard size , they just need to put a label inside the print bag to say that the package will fit a standard size frame such as 30x40cm, then they are more likely to sell more as their customers can pick up standard size frames from anywhere, they might even already have one at home, so the arist sells more, they come back to us for more mounts etc    :cash: :cash:

We keep a stock of three following
9x9 (23x23 cm) very good for Ikea frames
10x8
10x12
A4
12x16 if you're lucky might fit A3
16x20
20x24 small amount
Don't forget square pictures are very in at the moment, so you can fold the bags down, so 10x12 can be folded to fit 10x10
