Please can I get assistance as I am new to the framing, and was looking for some guidance, I was looking to purchase one of the Smart Matt Cutters, as due to just starting out I cannot justify an expensive Matt cutter.

I have a KEENCUT ultra and was going to upgrade as I bought it secondhand, would I be better just buying a new KEENCUT or buy a Smart Matt Cutter. :!:

I used a (second hand) Valiani mat pro before we bought a second hand cmc. It was a superb bit of kit and was a real step up from a keencut, they save loads of time and if you get one with an end cutter you also get a really square mount to start off with. They look similar to the smart Matt cutter which I don’t have any experience of.

They come up on here for sale occasionally or you could ask if anyone is thinking of selling one.

Do you mean Keencut Ultima or Ultra (I don't know what that is..)
FWIW, I would say it depends on the volume of mounts you expect to be cutting/size of business you are setting up for.
I'm in my third year, not high street. I have a Fletcher table top cutter. On the odd occasion I have had to do volume, I have cut 50 mounts on it in one go no problem, in a relatively short space of time.
If budget and space is not an issue, that's fine.
I was surprised how many more tools I needed, after 6 months in business, eg Hoffmann router, sanders, table saw, hotpress/laminator etc

Btw Peter at Framers Equipment in Northampton can be a good source of secondhand equipment. He's a service engineer too.

Thanks for the replies and sorry about the Ultima in the last post... I have spoken to Peter regarding the Smart Matt Cutter, I might go for one of them, not seen many secondhand, but he gave me a price for a new one.
