Framing Corgi models

Post by Tinweasel »

We had a 1:72 scale halifax bomber come in for framing the other day, not one of the airfix plastic kits but a Corgi diecast job. It's the first time I have even thought about a project like this, I haven't had a chance to measure it up yet but I know the wingspan must be something like 400mm and it's not a lightweight object.

Obviously this is destined for a shadow box, my current thinking is to used two or three layers of foam board cut in such a way that when covered in fabric it will hold the underside of the model snugly. I'm also thinking of making a support to fit under each wing to stop it rocking while being transported and using 2 bands of melinex on the body to hold it in place.

Now I'm still new to framing so I wanted to check if this would be the best way to tackle the task or see a better solution exsist.

Many thanks
