Slip as frame possible?

Post by iorek »

Hi

My customer wants a white, wood, plain moulding at around 70mm.

Dimensions for final product are 515mm x 660mm .

The nearest thing I can find is this - White Wash Slips

https://www.lionpic.co.uk/p/39153/69mm- ... e-Moulding

Is this suitable for making a frame? Or does anybody know an alternative?

Many thanks

David

As long as it has a rebate it should be okay as a frame.

Centrado have an angled one that width, or you could always get an unfinished moulding and stain or paint it white.

Thanks for that

It is 15mm with an 8mm rebate

In my mind that is enough, but is it in reality?

FYI - it's my first ever customer :)

Cheers

What size is the frame? Might be O.K. if the frame is not to big!

That's always a matter of opinion, and that depends unon who you ask. I tend to make things quite a lot stronger that they need to be, but I guess it should be strong enough, just make sure that the corner joins are nice and strong ones.

I've converted slips into liners by the simple expedient of gluing/stapling a bit of square wood to the back.
If the side edge is going to be visible, you have a bit of fettling to do. :P

Another example of ambiguous nomenclature.

That moulding is not a slip. It's a liner. It has a rebate. A slip does not.

In fact if you want to be more picky, if it were surrounded by a frame which was narrower it would be a panel. :P

Anyway, it's finished on the outer side so why not use it as is. :D
