I'm soon to be casting some plaster relief wall hangings. They are relatively small and not overly heavy. Ideally I want them to sit as flush to the wall as possible and I would prefer to use a small wire loop in the back of plaster. The intention is to place a small wire loop into the plaster whilst it is drying out in the mold, so once the plaster hardens the wire will remain in place.
I'm looking for a wire that is flexible to an extent whereby I can loop it into the plaster but once it's in the plaster holds it's shape and remains regid. Is there any suitable wire to use specifically for plaster or will any wire work? I've got plaster sculptures purchased from the highstreet that use wire loop backs but these wires seem very rigid and so far I've never come across such wires. It's very hard when buyingonlinejust by looking at pictures. If anyone could give some advice it would be appreciated.

Or .. go to a garden center and you can buy plant wire to tie up shrubs. It has a dark green coating and comes in several gauges, from light to heavy duty.

Similar to Dermot, I was going to say I use quite a thick gauge galvanised wire in the garden, found in most good hardware/garden stores.

I have been framing some of the David Bowie Life Masks castings, they have a small lenght of metal pipe set into the casting near the top, where you can hang them from, using a screw in the wall, haven't got a photo of the back,

Re: wire looped hangings for back of flat wall sculpture
You only get one chance to embed something into the wall sculpture, so it is at this stage that you get the change to incorporate something that has so long lasting durability. If the hangings are not of sufficient durability, then some kind of repair might be required at a later date, resulting in the item no longer being in original condition and this may possibly adversely affect the later value of the item.
