backing board is too small

Post by sarah1 »

Hi everyone,
I've been asked to frame something that it much larger than I normally frame. It's 100cm x 120cm. I've just checked my mdf backing boards and they're not large enough. I rang the suppliers and they only have that size. Any suggestions?

There are a number of options, what is it you are framing?

Thanks for the quick reply. It's a map which is thick. 100 cm x 120 cm.

Wessex do MDF in up to 2500 x 1240 and also offer a cut to size service from their Leatherhead branch if you don't do large items too often. Similar sizes available in foam centred board.

You can get MDF in 8ft by 4ft sheets at B&Q or timber merchants. B&Q will cut to size. Otherwise get a large sheet of foamcor

I keep a few sheets of 6x4' MDF for those awkward big jobs. They happen to be the exact size of my benchtop as well
so make good working surfaces. :D

I get oversized MDF cut to size by my local hardware shop. It's so much easier that cutting it myself. I though that was probably what we all did!
