Mounting an oversized print

Post by Alizarin »

Been asked to frame a print 99cm wide with a 6cm wide mount but just woke up (4am :Slap: ) and realised that the matt cutter isn't going to be big enough to cut it..... Any advice?

What are you like with a hand held mount cutter and a long straight edge? Lots of framers have do it that way! Have you got a large enough clean flat surface to work on? Or do you know anyone with a larger mount cutter, or maybe a jumbo size CMC? How big is your mount cutter, most people have 48 inch mount cutters these days and if thats what you've got it should cut 99cm without any problems. Add a bit extra for boarders and hopefully your there!

What mountcutter have you got? On some you can take of the cutter bar+block and cut along a pencil line.

I've only had to do this once to do an over size mount - I think it was 54" board with a 46" cut. I managed to clamp
it (diagonally) to my drawing board which has a green cutting mat on top. Quite a lot of faff.
