Hi all,
If anyone's feeling particularly generous or bored would they mind awfully pricing up some frames for me? If they're ever in my area I'll buy them a drink or get them some wine whatever's their tipple.
Here's the situation I find myself in - I've been approached by a local business to do framing for them as their current framer is stepping down. The customer has kindly let me know what they're paying for the frames at the moment - whether these are legit prices or not I'm not sure so I was after a second opinion.
The mouldings in question are all Wessex ones and they are:
B1419
B1516
C2035
C2636
C2664
D3364
D3467
D3513
PW66
WF030
Basically I'm looking for what you'd typically charge for one frame in the following sizes of frame for each moulding listed above and the price should include the whole job, ie. a single white conservation mountboard, normal float glass and backing.
15" x 12"
20" x 20"
30" x 30"
20" x 16"
24" x 18"
30" x 11"
I know this is a cheeky request, but if anyone has some pricing software with which they could zap their prices to me I'd be eternally grateful and the drink offer is a promise.
Thanks,
Sean

Re: Verification Pricing Needed...!
What I would charge would not necessarily be what you would need to charge as each business has a unique set of circumstances that govern their pricing structure.
If you are using Wessex mouldings why not get yourself the Wessex pricing programme? It has a 30 day trial so you are not committed if it does not suit you. The programme includes all the Wessex mouldings pre-loaded but you will need to adjust the values of other components to suit your business model.
If I was not stocking these mouldings routinely this would also have an effect on my price.

Re: Verification Pricing Needed...!
If you want responses with actual prices (which may be better in members only anyway) then you're limiting yourself to those that deal with Wessex and/or know the cost/can be bothered to look up the cost of those mouldings. A better idea may be to forget the moulding refs and just give prices per metre.

Can't shake of the mental picture of Tim's huge fag packet.

Why don't you cost out the materials plus wastage in each one, add your labour, taxes, markup on materials and see how the prices stack up?
What happens if the previous framer is a total numbnuts and has been charging out the materials with no markup and only adding half the cost of labour and no tax?
Anyone who is serious about framing should have worked out their labour rate and know how long each step in making a frame and the other components, takes. That should have happened in the first few weeks of business, if not before the business started.
I'm sorry but I am quite alarmed when I see questions like this. It makes me think people in business have possibly been too lazy to work out their pricing properly in the first place, so they have to rely on someone else, who has spent their time working out their pricing, to give them prices for free. Those prices are unlikely to be accurate for someone else's business.

Re: Verification Pricing Needed...!
You have the advantage of already knowing what your competitor was selling for and thus a rough indication of what your customer is prepared to pay. You should be able to work out your own cost for each of those frames take that away from the competitors price then you can see if you are happy with that profit margin. It may be you are more than happy but it may well be that it is a bit lean in which case you need to see how far you can push the client. If it is good regular work and a fair volume you may consider giving a discount to get close to those prices.
At the end of the day only you can evaluate how much you are prepared to charge.

Why is the current framer stepping down? retirement, the job is a PITA, he has too much work to fit this job in or he's not making any money. Use his prices as a guide, if they are way below what you have worked out, ask yourself is it worth it.
