Canon ipf6100 - Does anyone know who could service mine!

Post by Fee »

Hi Folks,

I am looking for someone to service my Canon IPF 6100 printer.

I have just been quoted Canon's prices to sent an engineer out - call out charge of £252 ( including first hour labour ) plus £60 per 30mins thereafter ( oops !!!).

I am located near Edinburgh.

Any suggestions would be most welcome. - Thanks

Hi Canvas Chris

Thanks for your reply and interest.

I have sent you a PM with a more comprehensive description of my problem however the main issue now is that my printer's display screen reads "Call for service" Error code E196 - 404D ( previously showing same message but error code E161-403F)

I dont know if that assists you ?

Regards

Both codes appear to relate to the printhead.

Think you are going to have to bite the bullet on this one and get new heads, especially if you had blockages.

Guessing as it's a 6100 it's out of warranty as the heads are covered for 12 months or so many pages.

Bad news is .... yes 2 heads. They ain't cheap as you have found out.

Before you change them look here.... http://canonipf.wikispaces.com/message/list/FAQ

It's a forum dedicated to iPF printers and maybe someone can advise.

Have a look in the FAQ... it's a very long page but somewhere near the bottom there's a bit about cleaning the heads... maybe worth a try as it refers to blocked nozzles.

If you don't print much would it not be worth farming your prints out? £700 worth of print heads is an awful lot of prints.

Best of luck

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your reply and advice - I will check the site out.

You are correct - sods law it is out of warrantly. I have had it about 3 years, and just my luck that it does have 2 print heads ( an occasion when perhaps 2 heads are not better than one !)

Your other comments re having to absorb this expense in relation to what monies it is actually bringing in for me at this time is also something I am currently reviewing.

Thanks again for taking time to reply.

Chris

Just checked the link out - someone with an identical problem to mine on the 5100 ! .

As you suggested - print head issue. The article even gives an account as to how the error message was cleared.

Cheers

Cool... 51..61..81. All basically the same m/c just different carriage widths.

Hope it works...
