Hi there

Im new to this forum and would really like some advice from those who know! : )
My GrandFather was a master gilder and years ago I acquired his old gilding kit with many many loose and transfer leaf gold books, about 60-70 years old!
I was fully intending to follow in his footsteps but illness put pay to that however my Daughter is now very keen
she plays and study's at a conservatoire with the harp
Upon some professional tuition from France she has gilded her rather elaborate carvings on her harp, a mammoth first project I know !!
I would like to ask all of you 'in the know' what is the best qualification to obtain in gilding, just gilding not framing, is there one that is highly respected and recognised by an organisation ?
I would really appreciate your advice
She is nearing completion of her harp today before shellac and wax
If there is an option to post a photo I will

Hope to hear from you
Loulabelle

How lovely! I can't answer your question, I'm afraid, but I just wanted to say I'm looking forward to seeing the picture of your daughter's harp - it's a beautiful instrument to listen to :)

Welcome to the forum :D I can't offer advice about a gilding qualification but I can point you in the right direction on how to post a photo. https://www.theframersforum.com/viewtop ... =22&t=2435

I know of no specific professional standard for gilders.
Here in the US is an organization that perpetuates the craft..... http://www.societyofgilders.org/
I was very active with the organization for about 15 years.

Hi and welcome to the forum,

You might consider contacting Gallery Lafrance in Bournemouth. It is run by Pierre Lafrance who also provides training in gilding. He has a good reputation for both his gilding and his training. I figure that being in Bournemouth, he might not be very far for you to travel.
