Hi there

Post by aspectgreg »

Hello, I’m Greg and I’m an artist, setting up a small home based framing business in North Essex. I’m at the point where I need to order at least samples, moulding and mountboard. I’ve just bought equipment and training from Framers Equipment. Where do I start choosing which mouldings to stock?!

Welcome to the madhouse Greg. 8)

You might want contact these folks - https://www.wessexpictures.com/ and ask for a catalogue or a visit from the rep.

They do their own weekly van deliveries and supply just about everything.

There are other suppliers, but it depends on what sort of work you are mostly framing.

Thanks. I am planning to use Wessex as they’ve responded really well to my initial enquiry. Is it a safe option to ask them to send me say 30 of their best sellers?

When I started with Wessex, they gave me a list of their top 50 mouldings. From that list, I selected X number of samples (I can't remember how many, but I don't think it was all that many), and then some others that weren't on the list. I decided from the outset that I was going to specialise in contemporary mouldings, so I don't have any samples of swept mouldings for instance. I wanted to start off with a reasonable selection of colours, sizes and shapes. It seems to have worked out OK :D

Hi Greg,
First off, I set up accounts with Wessex, Lions, Larson Juhl and Rose and Hollis.
Larson Juhl website, you can order all of their mountboard chevron sets and holders, free glass gloves and glass displays.
Wessex I buy all my mountboard by the sheet (Larson Juhl mountboards), backboards, display boards and glass.
Lions, all my sundries and basic ranges of mouldings.
Larson Juhl, I buy smarter mouldings, higher end.
Rose and Hollis I buy most of my barewoods for hand finishing/painting and paper-wrapped spacers for float mounting.
Good luck!
